Resonator

Resonator (part of the AV10 Festival) is an event looking at resonance and vibration in the context of sound art and related pursuits. An international group of metaphysicians and artists working with sound are brought together for a week long process: talks and discussions, technical workshops, physical building sessions, sound walks and other ‘field trips’ and collaborative creation of artwork. At the end of the process a gallery exhibition is prepared from sketches, models and prototypes created during the week. Co-organised with Will Schrimshaw.

Transmisol

A workshop in collaboration with Geraldine Juarez (2009 Transitio Festival, Mexico City). Participants make solar-powered radio transmitters, with provided hardware and found parts. Recorded messages are broadcast on select frequencies throughout the festival.

Music concrete composition for multichannel playback. The piece presents preliminary stages of recorded, material musical experience. Cassette tapes jostling, compact disc player hardware mechanism – all the accidental preludes of the listening experience. Remixed for 5.1 surround sound, 2009.

Chiptune Marching Band

Chiptune Marching Band is a workshop and performance. It involves people from all walks of life making electronic sounds with one another, out in the world and in the open air. Armed with the tools and know-how for hacking together alternative-power systems and square wave sensor circuits, we take to the streets.

Art Generator

What would electronic art be like if we were to free it from the burden of the electric grid?

For the Art Generator project, a human-powered generator powers the works of a group of invited electronic artists. At workshop events, pieces are created, added, removed and interconnected over the duration of the show. Exhibited as part of Exit Art’s Electric Lab.

Automayhem

Automayhem is toy concept and workshop for kids fusing the algorithmic complexity and unpredictability of video games with the physicality of remote-controlled cars. A platform for battling ‘bot’ cars against human drivers, the system suggests a number of directed play, game play and solo play game ideas.

Electrolytic Lithography

A novel system for etching of aluminum for fine art intaglio printing. Electrolytic system designed such chemical byproducts could be used in city wastewater treatment processes. (A collaboration with Canadian print artist Otis Tamasauskas at Queen’s University’s Fine Art Department)
