A multimedia GPS walking tour of Newcastle city center, exploring the industrial social-history of the city. Energy and infrastructures hardware are digitally layered onto the real cityscape, and experienced in-place. Human performers and physical items spotted in the city are further used to merge uncanny media and real worlds. Commissioned by Wunderbar Festival 2009.

“Sustainability” is ridiculous. A bicycle-generator powers a water pump and lighting system for a plantation of hydroponically grown, edible plants. Biker eats plants. Repeat. There are losses in this system.

Music concrete composition for multichannel playback. The piece presents preliminary stages of recorded, material musical experience. Cassette tapes jostling, compact disc player hardware mechanism – all the accidental preludes of the listening experience. Remixed for 5.1 surround sound, 2009.

Chiptune Marching Band
