Acoustic Subtractions are events in public space: Twenty minutes of white noise followed by twenty minutes of “silence.”
The audible world is masked and cancelled out by the potentials of all sound, the act of listening cleansed by its own saturation. Saturate every atom. This piece was devised by Will Schrimshaw and Jamie Allen for Resonator (2010). Acoustic subtractions have been undertaken in a number of locations internationally, including Kielder Forest, UK, Semperdepot, Vienna, Suncheon Wild Tea House, and Platoon Kunsthalle Seoul and the Eyup Sultan Mosque in Istanbul.
